Zoe, the inspiration for
Nancy's Cats
The painting, “Zoe,” (alternating with photo image
at left) was done in watercolor as a gift for my husband, Charley.
I used a photograph, taken when she was still a
small kitten. You will notice the black line around her left eye.
She doesn’t have it on the other eye. It’s like the princess failed
to finish her make-up.
Zoe was born in Gloucester, Virginia on a horse
farm. She was just a few weeks old when we adopted her. She
immediately went from barn cat to a princess with a staff of two.
She is a typical princess, giving attention on occasion, depending
on her whim. Zoe is my inspiration and model for Nancy’s Cats, which
can be viewed as a slide show by clicking any thumbnail image to the
right.
Webster says a cat is a small,
soft-furred animal, often kept as a pet. I intend to “let the cat
out of the bag” …. let the secrets be known!
You might think your cat is a pet but …….
Does it come when you call or do you have to take a ticket and wait?
Does it eat anything you feed it or turn up its beautiful nose ?
Does it let you pet or brush it whenever, or when it chooses?
Does it wake you up at six a.m. to play?
Does it leave nose prints on you windows for you to clean?
Who cleans the litter box?
Who vacuums up the cat hair that is everywhere?
When it meow’s who says, “What do you want sweetie?”
I could go on forever but Webster was wrong. A cat is a person,
fully in charge, and we as cat owners are merely staff. Each small,
soft-furred animal has its own personality and own bag of demands.
But most of all we love them dearly and beg for their affection.
I am fond of the cats I create and delight in
coming up with the correct name for each. The most enjoyable part is
figuring out their whims and personalities. I hope you enjoy viewing
Nancy’s Cats and reading their individual claims to fame.
